Bunny World Foundation Plea For Help (2009-2010)

A Bunny World Foundation Year End Wish

2010 Year End Goal, Tax Deductible Donation

Dear BWF Friend:

As you reflect on 2010, our first wish is that you will think of all the wonderful animals who we have rescued and cared for and include Bunny World Foundation in your year-end charitable giving.

  • To date we have rescued over 1,000 homeless bunnies.

  • In 2010 alone, we took in approximately 500 baby bunnies and most required syringe feeding.

  • We have yet to say "no" to the Santee Alley (LA Fashion District) bunnies - that means that no baby bunny confiscated from the illegal animal vendors in Downtown Los Angeles La Fashion District has been euthanized or turned away since BWF took over in June 2008.
  • Most of BWF bunnies were confiscated from the illegal animal vendors in the Los Angeles Fashion District by LAPD's Central Division as well as LA Fashion District Clean & Safe Team.

  • But, this year, nearly 100 bunnies came from North Central, Agoura, West Valley, Carson, Baldwin Park, and Orange County shelters.
  • We were alerted of some 30 bunnies posted on Craigslist that surely would have ended up as food for snakes, or worse, and we rescued and found homes for all.

  • BWF volunteers confiscated 40 adult and 1-2 days old baby bunnies from an animal hoarder in Hollywood who kept them in deplorable conditions in a cramped van in his backyard only feeding them dog and cat food. All these babies are now safe and in foster care or adopted to happy families.

  • BWF has appeared in various magazines and newspaper articles and on television news exposés. We were featured in LA Times and on KABC-TV Eyewitness News

Jaime Thompson, our youngest volunteer and one of our largest foster homes, recruited fellow classmates to volunteer with BWF and has fostered over 50 bunnies this year - she is truly our bunny angel! And so is her mom, Nancy.

  • Urban Pet in Silver Lake, CA is now the home of our Adoption Events.

  • We have perfected the protocol to ensure the baby bunnies survival. In the last 3 months we had the success rate of 99% and the survival rate has become 99%. As a result, our vet bills have decreased 50% from the year before.  We also want to thank Dr. Sari Kanfer and Dr. Gayle Roberts for all their help with BWF bunnies.

  • The BWF representative spoke before the City Council at the City Hall, requesting that the issue of the illegal animal sales in the LA Fashion District and Santee Alley be put back on the agenda. A few weeks later the City Council’s Public Safety Committee approved the concept of an ordinance that would make it a misdemeanor for consumers to purchase these animals off the street.  Please visit the latest Blog DownTown Los Angeles News.

  • Our documentary "The Deadly Secret of Santee Alley" is under way with the collaborative effort of USC Cinema & Television School volunteer filmmakers.

  • We have also worked along side various agencies such as PETA, Humane Society, and Born Free to put an end to the use of Avitrol to poison birds. Specifically, we have captured and recorded the immense suffering of birds caused by the ingestion of Avitrol. These videos were posted on YouTube and went viral, increasing awareness and public disapproval of the danger and cruelty of the use of this chemical.  Avitrol Corporation closed its doors on October 31st which is a significant victory for birds and other animals. However, the fight is not over. Avitrol kills approximately 200 million birds per year!  We are still working towards getting Avitrol banned in Los Angeles just as it is banned in London, New York, and San Francisco.

But the truth is -- we could not do any of this without our generous Board, Volunteers, and Friends like you who continue to support us so that we can provide food, medical care, foster homes, and continue our advocacy work on behalf of all of these incredible, magical, and grateful animals.

As 2010 comes to a close, the needs of our animals and the challenges we face in 2011 continue and so we ask you to please remember Bunny World Foundation in your holiday gift plans! Your year-end tax deductible donation will make a positive difference as we head into the New Year.

We hope that you will tell your friends and family about us and our ongoing efforts to help animals in need. We always welcome new friends and supporters and we thank you for making BWF a priority in your year-end giving.

And our second wish is to you and your family for a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

Warmest Regards from all of us at Bunny World Foundation.
